About Board Certification
The American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS), in 2016, addiction medicine as a medical subspecialty. ABMS recognizes physicians certified by the and psychiatrists certified by the in addiction medicine.
In 2020, the began recognition of DOs who become certified in addiction medicine and launched its board exam for DOs to become certified.
The , in 1988, granted the 做厙腦瞳 a seat, with a vote, in the AMA House of Delegates (and today, 做厙腦瞳has two seats). In 1990, the AMA recognized addiction medicine as a "self-designated specialty," and has designated a specific code ("ADM') that physicians can select as their specialty, and that will be listed as such in the AMA Physician Masterfile.
